Gallery July 2009 - Sponsored Bike Ride

Oxford to London sponsored bike ride for Sierra Leone July 2009

Saturday 25th July from Oxford to London following the Thames and taking in one or two landmarks along the way:

9.10 am - Bridge of Sighs Oxford

9.10 am - Bridge of Sighs Oxford

9.15 am Radcliffe Camera Oxford

11.15 am Thames at Henley (23 miles)

11.15 am Thames at Henley (23 miles)

We continued via Maidenhead (crossing the Thames once more) to arrive at Slough for lunch at 1.00 (40+ miles) at which point the splendid English countryside is replaced by a more industrial outlook. We followed the A4 via Heathrow and then routed via Hounslow to reconnect with the Thames at Twickenham and Richmond.

3.00 pm HQ/Twickers (Twickenham Stadium - home of English Rugby)

4.00 pm Craven Cottage (note the actual cottage is still at Fulham FC as part of the ground!)

The 6 miles on the tow path from Fulham to Westminster was the slowest leg of the journey due to a well earned stop for refreshments at the "Fulham Tup"!

5.30 - Houses of Parliament

5.30 - Houses of Parliament

5.40 - Big Ben

5.40 - Big Ben

5.50 - Buckingham Palace

5.50 - Buckingham Palace

6.10 - Arrive Paddington Station for return journey via train!

Total mileage - per google maps - 68 miles but allowing for a few dead ends at least 70 miles, but for those thinking of doing this next year then omitting the Twickenham / Richmond diversion to reconnect with the Thames will keep it to about 60 miles - let us know if you would like to join us?
